Harvard Still On Track To Reach Fossil Fuel-Neutral Status by 2026, Sustainability Report Finds
President Lowell and Dr. Alfred Worcester '78 will discuss the possibility of the University's constructing a new dining hall for club tables tomorrow afternoon at 1.30 o'clock in the Living Room of the Union, the graduate secretaries announced yesterday. The meeting will be rather informal and short, lasting not over 25 minutes, R. A. Magowan '27, head of the undergraduate committee, will preside.
The secretaries stated that the University authorities had given them to understand that President Lowell had secured the cooperation of the corporation in planning a dining hall to be strictly operated upon the club table plan and to be located on the site of the old Catholic church on the northwest corner of Mt. Auburn and Holyoke Streets. The President is not interested in competing with Square restaurants, but in supplying what no private eating establishment can,--namely, club tables, where groups of men can eat together, being assured of the same table and their particular friends at every meal.
Eating Clubs Care for Fewer Each Year
Because of this limited purpose and the large expense of such a building, any instruction is absolutely contingent upon a manifested desire of Harvard men for club tables. On account of the increased number of men in each successive class during recent years, the proportionate number of men not provided for in eating clubs has become increasingly large and it is this group of men that a club table establishment is aimed to please.
Tomorrow's meeting is open to all members of the University. Cards giving in detail the Union's offer for club tables will be distributed.
