TRIANGLE CLUB CHOOSES BIG, BAD, BAGDAD PLAY

Work on this year's production of the Princeton University Triangle Club is well under way, with the selection of cast and chorus completed, and the book and musical numbers well advanced. The show will follow the customary nature of a musical comedy, with all oriental setting, and is entitled "Samarkand".

Herbert Sanford, President of the Club, who was responsible for most of last year's musical numbers, has charge of this year's score and is directing the musical end of the production; while dialogue and lyrics will again be in the hands of Samuel Carter III, co-author of last year's show, "Fortuno".

The plot centers about a conspiracy to dethrone the caliph of the city, and place in his stead a treacherous, vizier who works, in conspiracy with a court dancer, to seize the ruler's daughter, who, with the aid of a self-declared magician, exposes the treachery by preying upon the superstition of the caliph.

The two acts are laid in the court room of the caliph and in the town square, respectively, and the scenery has been designed by John Moss; Moss is also designing the costuming. Constructivism, allowing for different stage levels, will be used for the first time in a Triangle production.

Among the veterans of previous Triangle Club casts and choruses will be included Ave Sherry, Secretary of the Club, who is directing the dancing and playing the leading feminine role, William Brenton and Franklin Gary, of comedy fame, and "Jake" Slagle, who will slip from the position of star half back to veteran chorus girl.
