CHAMPION POLO THREE OPENS INDOOR SEASON

Face Lancers at Armory Today--Present Veteran Line-Up Against Military in First Boston League Match

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The University intercollegiate polo champions will ride into action at 8 o'clock tonight in the Commonwealth Armory against the Lancers in the first match of the Boston Indoor Polo League. Two army teams will also clash tonight in the second meeting of the same league.

The Crimson will present a veteran lineup against the Lancer mallet men with F. D. Stranaban '26, Holden White '28, at numbers one and two, and Captain R. A. Pinkerton '27, back. J. H. Remick '29, may be used in a substitute role. The Lancer trio is made up of Emerson and Holbrook at one and two, and Kriedel at back.

Ponies in Bad Shape

With their ponies still soft and unconditioned after over a months idleness the University riders will be severely handicapped against the Boston team which has had some practice. Ten ponies were taken from Soldiers Field to the Armory yesterday afternoon where stalls have been arranged for with the Army officials for the remainder of the season. The mounts were again given on easy workout immediately afterwards by members of the team and found to be in poor condition for a strenuous contest.

The match tonight will probably be limited to four periods of three minutes each which may be changed to six sessions if the Harvard ponies stand the strain. Mounts will be changed every period and in the event than the Crimson players need more horses they will use some of those already stabled at the Armory. The University will have three veteran players in the contest tonight. Stranaban and Pinkerton are each playing their third year and White has one year of competition behind him.

Besides the indoor intercollegiate tournament which will be held in New York City sometime in March, the University team will compete in three other intercollegiate matches this winter. The first of these will be against the Norwich University riders on January 16, at North field, Vermont. The Norwich team will leave shortly after the contest with Harvard for a trip through the Middle West. The Yale date has been set for March 6, and the Crimson polo trio will go to New Haven, if this match does not conflict with the intercollegiate championship for which the date has not been definitely set. The third match will be with the West Point Cadets at West Point on February 20.
