F. S. MEAD RESIGNS FROM UNIVERSITY

Helped to Found Harvard Club of Boston and Was Its First Treasurer--A. L. Endicott Temporary Successor

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The resignation of Frederick S. Mead '87 from the University staff, after 18 years of activity in the service of Harvard, was made public by the University Office last night.

This withdrawal, which takes effect immediately, seemed to cause no astonishment in official circles last night, the only statement obtainable being that at Mr. Mead's request, his resignation was filed and accepted by the Corporation. A. L. Endicott '94, Bursar of the University, has been named acting comptroller for the time being.

Took Degree with Honors

Though comptroller for only five years, Mr. Mead's services lately have been numerous and varied, for the most part in the financial department. He graduated from Harvard with honors in 1887, and after a period of study in Europe, entered a stock broker's office. He then became a member of the firm of F. S. Mead and Company, where he remained for ten years.

Mr. Mead was one of the founders of the Harvard Club of Boston, in 1908, and served as its first treasurer. This office he held until 1919, when he became a director of the Club.

Edited Harvard Publications

He has not, however, confined himself entirely to finance. For two years he was editor of the University Directory, and of the Alumni Directory from 1919 to 1922. He was editor of Harvard's Military Record in the World War, pub-1921. From 1916 to 1919 he was a director of the Harvard Alumni Association and in November, 1920, was named Comptroller of the University.
