8 Takeaways From Harvard’s Task Force Reports
Leo H. Leary '05, end coach of the University football squad last season, definitely eliminated his name as a possible choice for head coach to succeed R. T. Fisher '12, when he announced yesterday to the CRIMSON, that he would be unable to accept the position if offered to him by the Football Advisory Committee.
"I will not entertain any offer to act as head coach of the Harvard team next season," stated Leary "and my law practice may make it impossible for me to carry any sort of a coaching assignment, although this is not definite. I have received no offer to serve as head coach, but have decided to state my position in case my name should be considered."
The decision of Leary follows closely the announcement of C. C. Buell '23, former quarter-back and captain of the University squad in 1922, that he will continue as an instructor at Milton Academy next year. These two statements eliminate two of the more likely choices for the new head coach.
Leary, who has coached the end candidates on Crimson squads, since his graduation in 1905, has been more than ordinarily successful in developing good wing men. He held down an end position on the 1905 team, captained by D. W. Knowlton '05.
