CROSS-COUNTRY TURNOUT DISAPPOINTING TO COACH

The initial turnout for the University and Freshman cross-country teams which was called in the Locker Building yesterday afternoon was most unsatisfactory, according to Coach Farrell of the University harriers. Only ten candidates for the University team reported, against the 24 of last year, and only four of those are well known to the coaching staff.

W. L. Tibbetts '26 will captain the University team, and is expected to be the backbone of the runners. He will be supported by E. C. Haggerty '27 and J. N. Watters '26 of last year's squad, and by L. B. R. Barker Jr. '26, who was out of the running last fall with a bad knee. Swede and Ryan will not bg able to come out this year.

Nothing can as yet be said of the eight Freshman candidates, but Coach Farrell offers every encouragement to those who have not come out, stating that many of the University's record-breaking runners had had no experience in running before entering college. It is also pointed out that the Freshman contest with Yale will be in New Haven on the morning of the Yale-Princeton football game.

Owing to the scarcity of manager candidates, opportunity is still open to applicants, who will be at no disadvantage in turning out late. Managers for cross-country teams will be at a great advantage in the competition for track managers in the competition for track managers in the spring. The competition will last approximately six weeks, candidates reporting for work every other day. There will be a meeting in the Locker Building this afternoon at 3 o'clock for all those interested.
