SOUSA LEADS BAND IN COMPLIMENTARY APPEARANCE TODAY

First Concert Ever Given by Sousa's Band at University Includes Both Classical Music and Jazz

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

John Philip Sousa and his band will give a concert at 3 o'clock this afternoon in Sanders Theatre. Through the courtesy of Lieutenant Sousa, the concert will be open without charge to the faculty and students of the University.

Sousa is recognized as the greatest living band leader. His fame is hardly less as a composer, largely of marches which have become standard band pieces all over the world. He has taken his band on many extensive tours, several times to Europe and twice around the world. Each season he tours the United States, giving concerts in all the principal cities.

The concert this afternoon was made possible when the famous conductor offered to make a complimentary appearance at the University with his band. The final arrangements for the concert were completed last spring.
