Harvard Crews Begin Another Red Top Season With Two Mile Spin on Thames--Second Crew Expected Wednesday

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Red Top, Conn., June 1--With the shells and all the crews and coaches except Coach Spuhn and the Second University eight, installed here again, the drive before the Yale race has begun. The Seconds are not expected to arrive before Wednesday, having been given a rest since their race at the Henley Regatta on Saturday.

The entire camp here is running on standard time, getting up at 7 o'clock. An effort is being made to hold the practice at the same time of day as the Blue race will be held, in order that the men may be thoroughly familiar with the weather conditions before the race. This morning, there was no morning row because of the fact that the float was not in position and low tide prevented moving it until the afternoon. The University eight went for a two-mile spin this afternoon, however, going to the submarine base and back. The Freshman eight also had its first spin on the Thames.

The shells have all arrived in good condition and with daily practice and examinations, the schedule is becoming fixed. The launch Pep. fresh from her little adventure with the government rum agents, has been overhauled and her leaks patched. The entire force of waiters and managers have been busy most of the day, unloading the shells and getting the equipment ready for practice. Tomorrow, the float will be ready for the morning row, and regulation work-outs of the usual length will probably be held both in the morning and in the afternoon.
