Unusual Generosity of Freshmen Nets Begging Seniors Cats, Alive and Dead, Soap, Boston Garter and $244.24

The Freshman Class, in donating $244.24 to the begging Seniors last Tuesday, exceeded not only all former records for munificence but also all records for variety in their gifts. Last year the paltry sum of $159.13 was accompanied merely by life savers and other trivial articles. This year, however the Seniors in charge of the collection announce a range and imagination in the choice of donations which are unprecedented in the annals of Senior and Freshman pictures.

The actual cash collected was mostly in coins. The number of pennies was 3,816, of nickels 253, of dimes 164, of quarters 86, and of halves 16. There were also Cuban, Spanish, and Chinese coins and a Pilgrim half dollar. In bills, $83 was collected, and in checks $64.53, including one check for three cents.

A number of Freshmen who were present had forgotten to bring funds with them. Unwilling to leave, however, before showing their good will, they contributed personal articles of every description. The following list, issued by the Senior Picture Committee, represents a small part of the donations.

One plutocrat tossed his gold watch (Waltham) into the arena. An animal lover contributed two cats, one live and one dead, followed by a tooth brush. An hospitable Freshman made a present of his door key. Others gave Sixteen Necco wafers and a bottle of soda mints. Among the remaining contributions were one cigar, one lump of sugar, one Boston garter, five beads, one cake of soap, one pipe, one safety pin, and large quantities of assorted fruit, most of which was far beyond its prime.
