What may be one of the greatest innovations in the American stage today will be the result of a theatrical experiment which has recently been initiated by Hamilton McFadden '21. The experiment will be started during the coming summer when a group of players, known as the "American Theatre Company Incorporated", opens its season at the Empire Theatre in Salem.
Includes Famous Players.
This new company, which has been organized by Mr. McFadden, will include some of the best known names on the American Stage. They have banded into a company together with several more inexperienced members in order to establish an independent organization and work out their repertory together.
Mr. McFadden, who since his graduation from the University has been connected with the stage and a member of the casts of several of New York's most successful plays, will be himself a member of the company.
The list of those who have joined the organization includes such names as Balys Sumpter, of the "Simon Called Peter" company, Harold Webster, recently with Jane Cowl and Ethel Barrymore, Helen Hayes, who is now playing in "Cleopatra" with the Theatre Guild, Elizabeth Patterson, star of "Candida" and one of the best known of America's character actresses, and Ann Carpenter, prominent member of the "Beggar on Horseback" cast.
Mr. McFadden will open his company at Salem only as a temporary location. He plans to move it to New York the following winter and eventually to establish it as a permanent repertory organization.
