UNION ELECTS MAHER NEW VICE PRESIDENT

A number of notable Harvard graduates joined in paying tribute to Major Henry Lee Higginson last night, at the twenty-fifth anniversary dinner of the Harvard Union, of which Major Higginson was the founder.

The guest of honor, and the principal speaker of the evening was President Emeritus Eliot. He was introduced by Judge F. P. Cabot '90, president of the governing board of the Union, and devoted his address to personal reminiscences of Major Higginson and to a description of the "durable elements of the Harvard spirit" which the Harvard Union has helped to preserve and strengthen.

"The greatest part of the unchanging Harvard spirit," said President Eliot in conclusion, "is the willingness to listen to all sides of a question. But when a crisis arises, we all go pretty nearly together on the main points."

Announce Result of Elections

Other speakers of the evening included C. P. Curtis '13, newly elected member of the Harvard corporation, and Mr. George Wigglesworth '74, who was Judge Cabot's predecessor as president of the Governing Board of the Union. Brief speeches were also given by E. G. Lowry '25, Vice President this year, and J. J. Maher '26, who has just been elected to succeed him in that position next year. At the close of Lowry's next year. At the close of Lowry's talk, the results of the recent elections for the undergraduate committee for next year were announced. M. A. Cheek '26 was named Senior member, C. G. T. Lundell '27 was elected Junior member, and John Watts '28 will be the Sophomore member. The representatives from the graduate schools will be W. R. Gage 1G.B. from the Business School, F. M. Archer 2L. of the Law School, and E. W. Spaulding 2G. from the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences.
