FRESHMEN AND SECOND TEAMS DOWN EXETER AND WENTWORTH

Both the 1928 and Second teams triumphed on Saturday, the Freshmen sending Exeter down to its first defeat of the season, 6 to 3, while the Harvard substitutes were finding the second inning enough to defeat Went-worth Institute, the final score being 20 to 6.

Until the seventh inning things looked black for the 1928 team on Saturday. Moran had tripled in the second inning, giving the New Hampshire nine a two run lead, and Barbee, the twirling ace of the Harvard Freshmen, had been slightly spiked in covering first base in the next inning and had been forced to retire. Linscott replaced him in the box against his former Alma Mater and, although another run slipped across in the seventh frame, he had control of the situation at all times, striking out eight men in the six innings.

The Crimson scoring began in the seventh when Ford singled with two men on base, both of whom scored, tying up the game. In the next inning. Chauncey got three bases on a long clout and scored on Nordberg's single. A moment later, Captain Jones added three more runs with a long four-ply hit. Jones, Linscott, and Chauncey, with two hits apiece, were the most effective of the Freshmen on the offense.

Twelve runs and nine hits won the Second team's game in the second inning, before the game had fairly begun. The Crimson clouting continued throughout the game, and when Puffer retired in the sixth inning, after having netted three hits himself while shutting out the Wentworth nine, the score was 17 to 0. Clifford and Andrews finished the game for the Seconds, and the Boston team collected a half-dozen runs before the ninth inning was over.
