PROFESSOR THAXTER BECOMES MEMBER OF FRENCH ACADEMY

The election of Professor Roland Thaxter. '82, Professor of Cryptogamic Botany, Emeritus, as a foreign member of the Botany Section of the French Academy of Sciences was announced last night.

Professor Thaxter, who assisted in the Department of Biology from 1886 to 1888, became Assistant Professor of Cryptogamic Botany in 1891 and was professor in this subject from 1901 to 1919, when he became professor emeritus.

Professor Thaxter is famous as an author by his many monographs and articles, especially on the fungous diseases of insects.
