On account of the many inquiries received here in regard to the CRIMSON essay contest for a trip to Europe, it has been found necessary to republish the conditions of the competition. The following is an extract from the announcement appearing in the CRIMSON on February 24:
"No definite subject has been selected for the essays of this competition, but each paper will be expected to answer in some respect the following question:
What one particular policy, plan, or improvement would you like to see extended or inaugurated at Harvard?
"The greatest possible freedom is afforded to the undergraduates by the question selected. A contestant may devote himself in his essay to a discussion of any one of the many aspects of the University, such as the tutorial system, the future architectural development of the University, or the need of a department of dramatic instruction.
"Essays will be received at the Crimson Building from now until March 24. Several essays of marked excellence will be published, anonymously, by the CRIMSON in its columns, and early in April will be published the name of the undergraduate selected as the winner by the judges, together with a reprint of his essay.
Rules of Essay Contest
"The rules for the contest, which is open to every undergraduate at Harvard, are as follows:
1. Each essay should be between 1000 and 1500 words in length.
2. It should be written, or typewritten, on one side of regulation theme or typewriter paper.
3. Each essay should bear the name, the college address, and the college class of the competitor.
4. All essays should be sent to the Managing Editor of the Harvard CRIMSON, 18 Plympton Steeet, before Tuesday, March 24.
5. There is no limit to the number of essays which any one contestant may submit."
