MASS MEETING WILL START CREW SEASON

Meeting Is Open to All Undergraduates Interested--Coach to Explain Relation of Crews to College

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

"We are stirring up something which I wish we didn't have to," said Coach E. A. Stevens of the University crews in discussing the innovation of a general mass meeting at the beginning of the crew's season, "but I feel it necessary to clear up some misunderstandings which exist in regard to the crew situation. There is criticism among graduates and undergraduates that crew is a closed sport at Harvard, and I want to explain the relation which crew wishes and ought to bear toward the college. I can do this only in a general meeting."

Meeting is for Entire University

The meeting will be held at Smith Common Room on Wednesday, at 5 o'clock. Coach Stevens emphasized again the fact that the meeting is not only for men wishing to row, but also for the entire University.

"I wish to gain for crew the support of the College and the "Graduates", he went on and abolish the feeling that the crew is an exclusive organization. The crew is an organization for the College, and it must be supported by the College, if it is to gain any success whatever. A feeling of unity and cooperation between the graduates, the undergraduates, and the crew is essential for success in any sport, and especially for crew in its present condition."

Kelley and Blanchard Will Speak

In addition to Coach Stevens on Wednesday afternoon, the speakers will include Captain S. B. Kelley '25, and Manager W. S. Blanchard '25, and several prominent graduates connected with rowing at Harvard, whose names will be announced later.

Wednesday's meeting will serve as a preliminary for the winter rowing season, which will start with active work on Thursday afternoon at the Newell Boathouse.
