AVOCATIONAL TRAINING IN PHOTO COMPETITION

Freshmen Begin, Work on February 12--No Previous Experience Necessary--May Lead to Chairmanship

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

On February 12 the CRIMSON will open its doors to Freshmen for the first time this year when three separate competitions in the news, photographic, and business departments start. These competitions are of 11 weeks duration.

In a competition for the CRIMSON the 1928 men will find an opportunity to carry out their desire to amount to more than just a student while in college. The competition for the photographic board is one of the most interesting and worth while activities that a Freshman is eligible for. In this competition men are offered an opportunity to really learn about photography. Candidates are taught to take good pictures, to develop them, print them, and enlarge them. No previous experience is necessary, and cameras are furnished by the CRIMSON for the men-in the competition.

The ecope of the photographic work that candidates are allowed to do is both broad and interesting. It includes the photography of track meets, hockey, games, famous men in the University and men of note who come here to speak. The candidates are thus able to meet men of prominence. If the candidates make the board they have an opportunity to compete for Photographic Chairman. As sophomore editors they are on a regular salary and compete for the two Assistant Photographic Chairmanships.

This competition consists of making up the pages, writing the out lines beneath the pictures and superintending the candidates in taking pictures. The two men who win in this-competition compete again for the Chairmanship in the first half of the Junior year. The winner of this competition holds office for one year.
