FLIRTING WITH DEATH

Miss Betty Deem of Reading has gone the Chinese one better. Their philosophy bids them pay their doctors only so long as they remain healthy. Miss Deem has conceived of the novel idea of appointing her pall-bearers while she still lives, and, moreover, of entertaining them.

A grisly evening it must have been when Miss Deem and her six future pall-bearers sat around the festive board at her home! Reports have it that she is perfectly healthy, at least in body. It must be a perverted sense of humor that enjoyed the company of her ominous guests.

Her example should do much toward sobering modern youth. Nothing that the older generation can say could bring the irresponsible swain to his senses more rapidly than a visit by the tailor to measure him for a winding sheet. The scatterbrained flapper ought to come closer to philosophy than at any other time in her life as she slowly goes to the Copley to keep a tea date with her undertaker.
