NEW RULES WILL RESTRICT PARKING NEAR YARD GATES

The restriction of parking within 20 feet on either side of eight entrances to the University Yard, and the limiting of parking time to 20 minutes during the day, on the south side of Massachusetts Avenue between Holyoke and Bow Streets, are provisions of a new amendment to the Traffic Ordinances, which will be voted on by the Cambridge City Council some time this month or in January. The amendment, which is now in the committee, was prepared by Mr. Russell Cazmay of 12 Plympton Street, Cambridge, on the request of the University officials.

The entrances to the Yard which are mentioned in the amendment are the 1857 Gate, the Porcellian Gate, and the 1877 Gate on Massachusetts Avenue; the Dudley Gate, and the 1885 Gate on Quincy Street; the 1877-8 Gate and the Meyer Gate on Broadway; the Holworthy Gate on Cambridge Street.

The purpose of the new restrictions is to allow people who wish to enter the Yard to draw up to the curb in front of the entrances and get out instead of blocking the traffic by stopping in the middle of the street. The new arrangement will also allow a better field of vision for those crossing from the Yard to the south side of Massachusetts Avenue.
