PIERIAN SODALITY HOLDS FIRST CONCERT TOMORROW

DANCE TO FOLLOW PERFORMANCE IN BRATTLE HALL

The revitalized Pierian Sodality Orchestra, conducted by G. S. Stanton '27, will present its annual concert and dance at 8.30 o'clock in Brattle Hall tomorrow night. The concort will continue untill 9.30 o'clock and will be followed by dancing.

Under its new and constructive policy the University Orchestra has gained for itself a status that assures one of the most successful seasons in its 119 years' history. The concert schedule this year, which provides for one appearance a week is also the heaviest in the history of the Orchestra.

The personnel of the Pierian is made up this year of 50 able musicians selected from the University in trials helds last fall.

New Conductor Experienced

Stanton who will lead the concert tomorrow night, has had wide experience in both choral and instrumental conducting. As a violinist, he has played under the batons of Mr. Serge Koussevitsky, conductor of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and Mr. Agide Jacchia. He has shown the experience and skill to evoke the greatest powers from his players.

The Orchestra contains several soloists of exceptional ability this season. Eight of the ten first violinists have acted as concert masters in other orchestras and many of them are engaged now in semi-professional work in Boston.

The program for tomorrow night includes the following numbers: "Our Director," by Bigelow; "Russian Folksongs--Volga Boatmen's Song," by Dubinushka; "Suite for String Orchestra," by Grieg; "March of the Little Lead Soliders," by Pierne; "Espana Valse," by Waldyenfel; "Triumphal March," by Grieg; Cello Solo by J. M. Barnes '29, and a Specialty Xylophone solo by Scott Burbank '29.
