The American German Student Exchange of the Institute of International Education announces that a limited number of fellowships for American students in Germany will be awarded by May 1, 1926.
These fellowships will be for the academic year 1926-1927. They are offered in the following fields: Political Science, Economics, Agriculture, Social Economy, Sociology, History, Literature, Psychology, Theology, Education, International Law, Commerce and Journalism. These fellowships are designed to do their part toward bringing about international friendship and good will by creating a tradition of cooperation and reciprocity between the United States and Germany through an interchange of students to study the institutions and psychology of the two countries. They are open to both men and women and are tenable for one year.
Requires Strict Qualifications
The requirements for eligibility are American citizenship, a working knowledge of German, ability to carry on work at a German university, which Implies at least two years in an American college or university, ability to pursue independent study and research, a health certificate, and good moral character and adaptability.
In order to be considered as a candidate for one of these scholarships each student must put in the hands of the Committee on Selection, before February 15, a properly filled out application blank accompanied by all the required credentials. Applicants between the ages of twenty and thirty and those who are potential leaders in public life will be given the preference by the Committee on Selection.
Scholarships Not to Include Travel
The fellowships cover tuition, board and lodging during the entire academic term. Each student will be expected to furnish an amount of money sufficient for travelling expenses to and from the German university and for use during periods of vacation.
American Fellows will be required to report at the universities to which they are assigned at the time of official opening and to reside in Germany at least 10 months. They may express preferences for certain universities, but these preferences must be supported by adequate reasons for the choice, in order to merit consideration by the Committee. Consideration of the subjects of study to be pursued will be the most important factor in the assignments made by the Committee.
