With the cheers of the parading students ringing in their ears, 44 players, Harvard's hope upon the gridiron, left for New York on the Merchant's Limited at 5 o'clock yesterday afternoon.
The entire squad is ready for the clash with Princeton, and is determined to win. Saltonstall, Daley, Chauncey, and Nordberg, out of one or more games with injuries, are all available for tomorrow's struggle.
The team that faces the Tiger tomorrow is much the same as the one that defeated Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in the opening game of the season. New faces that appear in the line-up are E. H. Bradford, playing in Saltonstall's position; Pratt, who has replaced Nash; Tripp, holding down Daley's old place, and probably Maher, who is still battling with Miller for a halfback berth.
A new spirit pervades Harvard's gridiron forces. The over-confidence incurred by the 68-0 victory over Middle-bury and partially responsible for the defeat by Holy Cross has long since vanished; and the discouragement cast by two consecutive defeats has been thrown aside. Harvard's gridiron forces are invading Tiger town in much the same frame of mind that the Princeton men were in when they came to Cambridge last November. The 34-0 win of the Orange and Black last year has not been forgotten, and the Crimson eleven will attack the tiger with a longing for revenge.
By trainer's orders, the squad was forced to scorn taxicabs and street cars last night and walked the eight blocks from the station to the Hotel Vanderbilt.
This morning the players go to Princeton, and after lunch there will don uniforms and try the turf on the Palmer Stadium gridiron.
