The University hockey team will go on the ice Monday afternoon for the first time this season. The late opening of the Arena has forced them to don skates a week later than last year.
Several experienced players will be absent from the squad when the latter has its first real workout under Coach E. L. Bigelow '21, on Monday. C. D. Coady '27, who was a star defense man as a schoolboy and captain of his Freshman team, is elegible this season, but is not expected to report for some time. His availability makes up in some measure for the loss of P. W. Chase '25, W. B. Ellison '27, and William Howard '27, defence men last season.
The first team will not be picked for some time yet. Monday, however, the squad will be divided into a number of teams. C. S. Gross '27, R. S. Scott '27, George Crawford '28, L. O. Pratt '26, J. B. Robinson '28, and Captain Thayer Cumings '26, will comprise Team A.
Basketball practice has been going on for a week in full swing. With five veterans on hand and considerable promis-Barbee, guard on last year's Freshman ing new material, the outlook is bright. team, is one of the most likely of the new men.
A competition for the position of second assistant manager of the basketball team will begin tonight at 6.30 o'clock in Thayer '31. Sophomores are eligible to compete.
