Professor Theodore Lyman Will Devote Entire Time to Directing Jefferson Laboratory--24 Years on Faculty

Professor Theodore Lyman '97, Hollis Professor of Mathematics and Natural Philosophy and Director of the Jefferson Physical Laboratory, has resigned his former post to devote his entire time to directing the Laboratory.

Professor Lyman has been on the University faculty for 24 years. Starting as an instructor in physics in 1902, he became assistant professor and director of the Jefferson Physical Laboratory in 1908. He was appointed to a full professorship in 1917.

Professor Lyman was active in the World War. In 1917 he was captain of aviation in the signal reserve corps, and later became a major in the United States engineers. He saw service with the American Expeditionary Force, being an expert in flash and sound ranging.

Professor Lyman is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and of the Royal Geographical Society.
