CLOSE FRIEND OF CONRAD WILL SPEAK AT EMERSON

Richard Henry Parnell Curle of London, writer, world-traveller, book collector, and sportsman, who was a close friend of both Joseph Conrad and W. H. Hudson, will give a lecture at the University on Tuesday evening, October 20, at 8 o'clock in Emerson Hall, Room D, under the auspices of the Department of English.

The lecture, which will be open to the public, will be about Joseph Conrad's attitude towards his work, a subject on which no one is better qualified to speak than Mr. Curle.

Mr. Curle has been an extensive traveller in South America, the West Indies, Africa, the Near East, Burma, the Malay States, and in other parts of the world. His private collection of manuscripts connected with Conrad and Hudson is unique. He is a sportsman and author as well, among the books he has written being "Joseph Conrad: a Study", "Aspects of George Meredith", "Into the East", "Wanderers", "Shadows Out of the Crowd", and other volumes.

Mr. Surle will arrive in Boston this morning by train and will go directly to the Harvard Club, where he will live during his brief stay.
