An extra period was necessary before the B. A. A. hockey team was able to subdue the University sextet 6 to 5 at the Arena last night. The extra session was six minutes old when Geran, on a face-off near the Crimson cage, took the puck, skated behind the net and slipped a shot in the corner which Cumings was unable to stop.
Beals Evens Score
Coming into the final period on the short end of a 5 to 3 count, Pratt soon caged a rebound and Captain Beals evened the score on a pass from Howard. The going began to get fast at this point, but brilliant work by both goals stopped any further scoring.
After five minutes of play, Austin counted the first goal for Harvard on a pass from Zarakov. Thirty seconds later this same player took the puck from behind the goal and skated through the entire B. A. A. team to score again. On a pass from Enright, Harrington scored for the B. A. A., and the period ended with the University, enjoying a 2 to 1 lead.
Austin scored his third goal of the evening during the early minutes of the second period. B. A. A. took a spurt at this point, and goals in quick succession by Small, Harrington, and two from the stick of Geran, gave the club team a 5 to 3 advantage.
Austin proved again that he is one of the most capable wingmen to represent the Crimson in recent years. His three scores were shots which any goal guard would have had difficulty in stopping, and he covered his territory well at all times.
Hodder was forced to leave the game during the first period, going home sick. His absence broke up the accurate passing which has characterized the play of the first forward line. Zarakov took Hodder's place, but was also forced to leave the game in the second period when he suffered a recurrence of his football injury on the knee. Ellison had a stitch taken in his eye as a result of a collision with Small, the B. A. A. defense man.
The game last night demonstrated conclusively that the University numbers two first class goalies in Newell and Cumings. Newell made 14 stops in the first and seven in the second period.
The summary:
Score, B. A. A. 6, Harvard 5, Goals, Austin 3, Beals, Pratt, Goran 3, Harrington 2, Small, Reforces, Synott and Tuck. Time, three 20 minute periods one 10-minute period.
