The University one-mile relay team will oppose the Notre Dame four in a special race as part of the program of the Knights of Columbus indoor track meet on February 7 in Mechanics Hall.
Coach Farrell stated yesterday that attempts had been made for the Crimson relay men to race Yale at this meet, but the Eli team found it impossible to come to Boston at that time. As a result, Notre Dame is to be the University's opponent. Notre Dame had previously expressed a desire to race the University relay team and Coach Farrell had been desirous of meeting the Hoosiers.
Farrell Names Six Possibilities
Coach Farrell said that he expected to choose his team from among R. G. Allen '26, J. H. Broome '26. E. C. Haggerty '27, F. P. Kane '26, L. L. Robb '25, and K. M. Rogers '26. These runners have all been showing up well this winter in practice.
This will be the first time in more than a decade that a Crimson track team has run against Notre Dame. With some of Notre Dame's famous backfield stars entered in the race, the University team will face a severe task. Adam Walsh, captain of the Notre Dame football team last fall, and Elmer Layden, a halfback, are certain to be on the quartet. Walsh is the intercollegiate hurdle champion of Indiana while Layden holds the title for indoor sprints in the state. William Crowley, another football man may be in the team to face the University. He suffered a complete collapse after the football season which closed with the Stanford game on New Year's Day and has been unable to take part in athletics since then.
