Three courses on Egyptology to be given by Professor G. A. Reisner '89 are among the new courses which have recently been added to the list of courses of instruction for the second half year. They are Egyptology 1, an introduction to the study of the Egyptian language; Egyptology 3, which comprises the history of Egypt to Alexander the Great, and Egyptology 6, on archaeological field work as a method of historical research. All of these courses will be offered to undergraduates and graduates. Egyptology 1 and 3 will meet three times a week, and Egyptology 6 twice a week, at hours to be arranged.
Another course to be added will be Social Ethics 5, given by Professor Franklin Johnson '93 of Grinnell College on the principles and development of society, both normal and abnormal. The course, consisting of lectures and conferences, will meet on Tuesday and Thursday at 9, and at a third hour to be arranged.
To Give Course on Museum Work
Two courses primarily for graduates have also been added. Associate Professor P. J. Sachs '00 and other members of the division will give Fine Arts 15, which deals with museum work and museum problems. Social Ethics 15, on radical social theory, consisting of lectures, conferences, and reports, will be given by Dr. R. M. Hexter.
The two courses which have been omitted are French 25, "La Fontaine and the Fable in France," which was to be given by Associate Professor A. F. Whittem, and Hygiene and Sanitation 20a, usually given by Professor M. C. Whipple.
Make Change in Hours
Changes in the hours of two courses have been made. Philosophy 25, "Philosophy of Values," will be given by Dr. W. P. Bell, on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at 10 o'clock, instead of at 12 o'clock as previously announced. History of Religion 1, given by Professor G. F. Moore '06, has been shifted to Tuesday, Thursday and (at the pleasure of the instructor) Saturday, at 12 o'clock. Chinese 1 and 2, on the Chinese language, announced as full courses throughout the year, will be offered as half-courses in the second half-year. Mr. Mei, who was to give these courses in September, was held up in China by a revolution, and thus was unable to make his way back to the University until late in the semester. Philosophy 13, a historical survey of philosophy in the Middle Ages, announced as a half-course in the first half-year, will be given as a half-course in the second half-year by Assistant Professor George La Piana.
The College office has also announced that if the enrollment in English 52 given by Assistant Professor C. T. Copeland '82 on Johnson and his Circle, exceeds 100, Sophomores may not be admitted. In any event, not more than 200 students will be admitted, and consent to enter the course must be obtained from Mr. G. H. Code '17.
