On Monday afternoon fall polo practice will begin. This practice will be open to all students, and it is expected that a large number of men will report. At present 12 ponies are available, in addition to several privately owned mounts.
Captain S. F. Clark is making a drive to develop a formidable team, and the prospects seem good. Last year's entire regular team, consisting of G. E. Kent '25, F. D. Stranahan '26, R. A. Pinkerton '27, and J. W. Tufts '27, has returned to college, as well as two substitutes, G. J. Farrelley '26, and J. H. G. Pell '26. All the above men have played polo during the summer, and are in first class condition.
There is also some good material expected from the Freshman class, including F. A. Clark, R. E. Guest, G. L. Shaw, and Holden White; these men are expected to strengthen the squad considerably, as they have all had experience on well-known polo fields.
Beside this the Department of Military Science in the University has secured three new instructors this year. They are Major L. A. Craig, Captain William Spence, and Captain J. B. Wogan. All these men play polo and have agreed to join Captain Clark in the formation of an officers' team to play games in Boston. This team should be able to give the University some good competition in practice matches.
During the first week of practice the fundamentals of the game will be taken up, and later there will be practice games between first and second teams and the officers' outfit.
Captain Clark said last night that the team may be able to obtain facilitics for indoor practice, in which case practice will be held all winter.
