A AND B TEAMS SCORE ONCE EACH IN FIRST SCRIMMAGE

Two touchdowns were scored yesterday by Captain Greenough's men in the first scrimmage of the 1924 season with Coach Knox's blackshirts. The University men playing on the offense the whole time showed a strong driving attack. Team A displayed more power than Team B, although each was responsible for one of the touchdowns. Only one fumble was made during the hour, and that was excusable in that yesterday was the first day of scrimmage.

Scrubs Have First Skirmish

At 4.30 o'clock two scrub teams entered the Stadium. Coach Fisher gave Team A the ball on its 20-yard line. By fast and powerful linebucks, the University team easily carried the ball to midfield. Spalding, Hammond, Gehrke, and Miller worked with the precision usually found in a backfield toward the middle of the season. The pigskin was then returned to the University's 30-yard line, and Team A again drove it to midfield. The ball was moved about by the coaches arbitrarily.

The feature of yesterday's play occurred when Captain Greenough's eleven rushed the ball from centerfield for a touchdown scored by Miller on a line plunge. Several substitutions were made; Taylor for Greenough, Stafford for Spalding, and Maher for Hammond. Maher made the most brilliant run of the afternoon when he gained 15 yards off tackle.

Beals Now a Team B End

Following the scoring of the first touchdown Team B took the field, also on the offense. One change in yesterday's lineup was the replacement of Hitch, who is temporarily on the doctor's list, by Beals at right end. Team B did not show the same force as Team A but, nevertheless, was able to score when Saniborski who had substituted for Howe crossed the zero line. Coach Fisher tried out several combinations. Puffer and Cheek replaced Rogers and Stafford in the backfield, which made it practically the third team backfield. In the line Harrison and Robinson, recent donners of the red jersey, replaced Taylor and Robb, and the second eleven's center, Gamsche, gave way to the 1922 star end, Holder. Thus by the end of the afternoon with few exceptions Team C, was on the field. By 5.30 o'clock all the players had left the Stadium.

One more name, that of Lindener, 3 lanky guard of 185 pounds was yesterday day added to the University squad.
