Groundkeeper Dennis Enright announced last night that there will be double finish tapes at the Olympic tryouts today and tomorrow in both the 400 metre and 800 metre events, one tape at the regular metre distances, and one--at the 440 and 880 yard marks, and that the time of the winner will be taken at both tapes although only the metre finish and the metre time will be official. The distance of 400 metres is approximately 2 1-2 yards short of a quarter mile and the 800 metres event measures 874 yards.
The 100 metre dash is 9 yards 1 foot over the regular century sprint and 20 0 metres is 1 yard 10 inches less than the furlong. There will not, however, be double finish tapes in these events, nor in the 1500 metre race, which is 120 yards less than a mile.
