WHALING EXPERT TO GIVE ILLUSTRATED UNION TALK

HUMAN SIDE OF CRUISE WILL NOT BE NEGLECTED

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

With a large collection of lantern slides showing the methods and experiences of the sailors on whaling vessels, Mr. A. C. Watson '19 will talk in the Living Room of the Union tonight at 7.30 o'clock on "Whaling".

Mr. Watson has been for some years the acting curator of the Old Dartmouth Historical Society and Whaling Museum, in New Bedford, and is thoroughly conversant with the details of the industry that once claimed 329 ships from that port. The collection of interesting objects connected with the business of whaling, which Mr. Watson has made in the museum, is said to be the finest of its kind in the world.

Mr. Watson will discuss the history of whaling, stressing the part that it has played in American maritime life and commerce, and giving the reasons for its decline. He will treat at length the procedure of a whaling cruise, giving some discussion of the human side of life at sea, with quotations selected from the most interesting of his log books.
