Racing almost evenly over a five-eighths mile course on the Charles, a Middlesex crew and a Smith Halls dormitory boat yesterday fought a close battle and the former won by a bare half length. The race was raced under good conditions, and the winning boat covered the distance in two minutes, 47 3-5 seconds.
The Middlesex eight was the third string school crew, the first two Middlesex combinations being four-oared crews. The following were the line-ups of the crews:

Smith Halls--Stroke, Clarke; 7, Captain Johnson; 6, Brown; 5, Pierce; 4, Packard; 3, Ritchie; 2, Huntley; bow, Could; cox., Masscil.
