"The University will be one of the most active participants in Boston's first Music Week, which is to begin on Monday. The week will be devoted to a great revival of public interest in music and Harvard will be glad to have a share in it. The broad musical life here in the University finds its expression largely in Boston's musical centers and the Music Department will spare no trouble to make the week a success."
Professor Walter Raymond Spalding '87, of the Music Department in the University, told a CRIMSON reporter of the preparations that are being made for the Music Week. The revival is to be broad in scope, music being fostered in public institutions, in factories and in drawing rooms. It is particularly appropriate in view of the part Boston has always played in music and the exceptional musical interest that is being shown at the University.
A large percentage of the Advisory Committee, in charge of the revival, are graduates of the University and the Music Department is to be connected with the program. While the celebration lasts, all visitors will be allowed to sit in on the various courses, and they will find special features arranged for next week. On Wednesday night, Professor Spalding will give a special lecture at 8.15 o'clock in the Paine Concert Hall, on "Animal Life in Music". The talk will be illustrated by vocal and instrumental selections by members of the department.
On Thursday, May 8, the Department has arranged an informal concert to be followed by a reception. The Glee Club and a few instrumental soloists will conduct a program that is being arranged by Professor Spalding.
