An important new departure in the Dental School organization has been inaugurated in connection with the recent change in the office of dean, the resignation of Dr. Eugene H. Smith. This new departure consists in a much closer alliance between the Dental and Medical School, as shown by the appointment of Dr. David L. Edsall to be Dean of the Faculty of both Medicine and Dentistry.
The Dental School has always been dependent on the Medical School for its instruction during the first year or more of its course. The support by the Medical School has been of vital importance. Now under Dean Edsall there will be a still more vital cooperation and union.
At the present time the question of preventive medicine is upper most in the public and professional mind. It is for the Dental School to do its share in showing how the teeth affect health and disease, and under the new Medical School alliance it is expected that the problems of preventive medicine as affected by diseases of the teeth will have a much better chance of solution.
