1927 DEFEATS HOLY CROSS

Visiting Freshmen Held to Six Hits by Booth--Score, 3-1

The 1927 team put an end to the winning streak of the Holy Cross Freshmen yesterday afternoon, when Booth turned the Purple nine back 3 to 1, giving the visitors only six hits. His team mates not only gave him good support in the crucial moments but also turned their six hits into three runs. Seven strikeouts went to Booth's credit with only one walk.

The first inning settled the issue of the game. With one out, Bennett singled and Zarakov walked. Howard came through with a long, triple to left field but was caught at the plate when he tried to stretch the hit into a home run. Two runs had crossed, however, enough to win the game.

The visitors scored and came home on a sacrifice and another hit. To sew up the game, the Freshmen added another in the ninth when Zarakov singled, stole second and tallied while Howard was being thrown out at first.

Coach Davidson juggled his line up before yesterday's game, putting Durant in left-field and lead-off position in the batting order, and using Tobin at first instead of behind the plate. Duchin accordingly donned the catcher's mask.
