Andover Wins Interscholastic Meet--O'Neil Breaks Bingham's 880 Mark

Since the spring of 1920 Andover has never been beaten in the Harvard Interscholastics. It was by no small margin that it outclassed a large field representing 24 other schools in the meet at Soldiers Field Saturday afternoon. Following Andover's total of '58 points trailed Exeter with 38 3-4 points and then Medford High with 11. In all but one event, the discus throw, the winning school placed, while its big rival, Exeter, faied to make itself felt in the 440-yards dash and the high jump.

O'Neil And Borah Star on Track

There were two outstanding heroes in the thirty-ninth annual Harvard schoolboy classic.

The half-mile mark, set by W. J. Bingham '16 a decade and a half ago, was lowered by Exeter's captain, A. H. O'Neil, by one-fifth of a second to 58 4-5 seconds. C. E. Borah of Andover proved himself able to cover 100 and 220 yards as fast as almost any other schoolboy in the country. Despite a wet track and a fine mist blowing in from the east, Borah found little difficulty in running two trial heats and then winning the shorter dash in 10 seconds flat, equalling the record made way back in 1899; and then two more trials heats and winning the 220 yards dash in 22 seconds. Such a performance is not seen every day.

Two One-Man Teams Place High

Two one man teams, which competed Saturday, won seventh and eight places, beating 17 and 18 schools respectively. B. Connors from Allan Chalmers was second in both the shot and the discus, while D. Mc Clellan of the University School, Cleveland, Ohio, captured first place in the pole vault at 11 feet. Were it not for the strictness of the H. A. A. another one man team might have participated. Early Saturday morning a youth entered the H. A. A. office, saying that he happened to be passing through Boston that day and would like to enter in every event of the meet. The entry list however, had been closed, and so he was refused admission.

440-Yards Run--Won by Clark (Huntington); second, Johnson (Somerville); third, Keep (Andover); fourth, Hallowell (Milton). Time: 52s.

880-Yards Run--Won by O'Neil (Exeter); second, Dooley (Huntington); third, Rindlaub (Andover); fourth, Taylor (Hyde Park). Time: 1m. 58 4-5s. (new Harvard Interscholastic record)

One Mile Run--Won by Chute (Andover); second, Burke (Lowell); third, Carney (Huntington); fourth, Ferguson (Exeter). Time: 4m. 39s.

120-Yard High Hurdles--Won by Elliot (Exeter); second, Wood (Andover); third, Parshley (Medford); fourth, Foxall (Andover). Time: 16 1-5s.

220--Yard Low Hurdles--Won by Paxton (Andover); second, Elliot (Exeter); third, Greenslet (Milton); fourth, Martino (Worcester). Time: 25 4-5s.

High Jump--Won by Moody (Medford); second, tie between Larsen (Andover) and Russell (Lynn Classical); fourth, Vinal (Lowell), Height: 5ft. 9in.

Pole Vault--Won by Mc Clellan (University School); second, Fogg (Burlington); faird, tie between Harvey (Andover), Vail (Andover), Richardson (Dean), and Clark (Exeter), Height 11ft.

Shot Put--Won by Healey (Andover); second, Connors (Allen Chalmers); third, Harnden (Worcester); fourth, Wilson (Exeter). Distance: 45 ft. 6 3-4 in.

Javelin Throw--Won by Healey (Andover); second, Robins (Exeter); third, Keesling (Andover); fourth, Grady (Exeter). Distance: 158ft. 11 1-2in.

Broad Jump--Won by Glendenning (Andover); second, Brandenburg (Exeter); third, Moore (Medford); fourth, the between Straub (Exeter) and Grady (Exeter. Distance: 21ft. 10in.
