8 Takeaways From Harvard’s Task Force Reports
"Let us do all we can to make the Harvard enrollment as great as possible," said R. T. Fisher '12, head coach of the University football team introducing Colonel Planton Winship, Officer in Charge of C. M. T. C. affairs, at the Stadium yesterday afternoon. "I heartily endorse the project of summer military training."
Over 250 athletes were assembled inside the Stadium. Football, crew, baseball, track lacrosse, soccer, and tennis stopped at 4.15 o'clock to enable all to attend. "If the nation does not train young college men, it will be left with no adequate defense", said Colonel Winship. "Congress has so cut down on the reserve corps that we absolutely must get support for our project. What I want to see a large group from Harvard at Camp Devens next summer, for once Harvard takes the lead in this movement other colleges will follow." Time C. M. T. C. hopes to enlist over 100,000 men every summer.
