VANGUARD SETS OUT FOR PENNSYLVANIA

The University track season will open tomorrow with the medley relay and hammer throw events at the Penn Relay Carnival at Franklin Field, Philadelphia. Captain J. E. Merrill '24, J. N. Watters '26, R. G. Allen '26, W. L. Tibbetts Jr. '26, L. L. Robb '25, J. R. Broome '26, and, for the hammer throw, P. E. Berglund '26 will leave for Philadelphia via New York at 1 o'clock today accompanied by Manager A. C. Bickford '24.

Opposition in the medley race will be strong, particularly from Penn State, Yale, Georgetown, and Cambridge University, England. If the first three men of these universities keep a fairly even place, as predictions points that they will, the anchor men, who have the half mile lap, will run a spectacular race. Lowe, the ace of the English two-mile lap, will run a spectacular race. Lowe, the ace of the English two-mile relay team, Heffrich of Penn State, who ran the half mile in 1 minute 55 and 8-10 seconds in the intercollegiate meet last spring, and Watters of Harvard, who also will run in the four-mile relay Saturday, will be the outstanding figures of the race.

Climax Comes Saturday

The climax of the carnival will in al probability come Saturday afternoon in the mile relay event. The particularly creditable performance at the indoor I. C. A. A. A. A. meet at the end of the winter season this year following a series of races during the year each run faster than the last has made the Harvard team, composed of R. G. Allen '26, J. E. Merrill '24, L. L. Robb '25, and F. P. Kane '26, one of the favorites for Saturday, Cambridge, Yale, Georgetown, and Holy Cross also rank high as favorites.

Farrell Optimistic

Accordingg to Coach Farrell the chances of securing points in the discus, javelin, shotput, and broad jump are good. In the discus event C. C. Carpenter '24 and R. H. Hallowell '25 are entered: in the Javelin F. K. Kernan '24 and R. M. C. Greenidge '24; in the shotput C. A. C. Eastman '24; and in the two jumps R. L. Hyatt Jr. 24.

Georgetown, Boston College, the Navy, Missouri, and Wisconsin will be the greatest hindrances in the path of the four-mile relay team. J. N. Watters '26, W. L. Tibbetts Jr. '26, B. R. Cutcheon '25, and W. L. Chapin Jr. '25 will represent Harvard in this event.
