LOWES SUCCEEDS HASKINS AS GRADUATE SCHOOL DEAN

Dr. John Livingston Lowes A.M. '05, Professor of English in the University since 1918, and at present chairman of the English Department, has been appointed Dean of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, to succeed Professor Charles Homer Haskins A.M. '08, recently resigned, according to an announcement by University authorities.

Dean Haskins will continue as Gurney Professor of History and Political Science in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences.

Another appointment is that of Dr. L. M. S. Miner '04, Professor of Clinical Oral Surgery, and member of the Administrative Board of the Dental School, who succeeds Professor E. H. Smith Dn. '74, also resigned, as Dean of the Harvard Dental School.

Dean Smith will retire and become Professor of Clinical Dentistry, Emeritus.

The close cooperation of the Dental and Medical Schools at Harvard is shown by the announcement that Dean D. L. Edsall is to be Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, as well as continuing as Dean of the Medical School.

A leave of absence has been granted for the first half of next year to Professor C. W. Killam Ed '07, of the School of Architecture, and for the second half of the year, to Professor A. B. Hart '80, Eaton Professor of the Science of Government.
