AGAWAM HUNT CLUB FIRST MATCH FOR TENNIS TEAM

PFAFFMAN, INGRAHAM, BRIGGS AT TOP OF THEIR FORM

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Playing its first match of the season against the Agawam Hunt Club, at Providence, Rhode Island, the University tennis team comprising Captain K. S. Pfaffmann '24, W. W. Ingraham '24, Alden Briggs '25, W. P. Dixon '25, Parke Cummings '25, and G. H. Perkins '26 will leave at 1 o'clock this afternoon on a southern trip during which six matches will be played.

Last year the match with the Agawam Hunt Club resulted in a 3-3 tie, Ingraham being the only member of the present combination who won a victory in the singles.

Following the match in Providence, the team will journey to Richmond, where it will meet the Country Club of Virginia on Monday afternoon. On Tuesday, the Norfolk Country Club, a team which the University defeated 7-1 last year, and in which each man in the singles won his match in straight sets, will be the Crimson's opponents.

Oppose Chevy Chase

The strong Chevy Chase Country Club team will be played on Wednesday afternoon in Washington, D. C. Although the University won this match easily last year by the score of 7-2, this team was responsible for inflicting the sole defeat of the southern trip the previous year. The Dunbarton Club of Washington will be met for the first time on Friday afternoon.

The final match of the southern trip will be played on Saturday with representatives from the Baltimore Country Club facing the Crimson across the net on the Country Club courts at Baltimore. The team will return in time for classes Monday morning.

Although the University squad has been practicing regularly on the courts of the Longwood Tennis Club at Longwood, the competition which will be afforded during the trip will give the players a valuable background of experience for a strenuous season beginning with the resumption of classes after the recess. Captain Plaffmann and Briggs are playing better this year than ever before, and Ingraham continues, to be the same brilliant performer. While it is rather early to make any predictions concerning the outcome of the season, Coach Cowles is particularly optimistic. The outcome of this trip will serve to Indicate the possibilities for a successful season.
