Sherwood Eddy, internationally known traveler and Y. M. C. A. worker, will speak on "The Roots of War" this evening in the Union Living Room at 7.30 o'clock, in the first of a series of two talks on the general subject of "Preparedness or Pacifism?" Both this evening's talk and the one which Mr. Eddy will give at Phillips Brooks House tomorrow night at 7.30 o'clock have been arranged by the Harvard Christian Association, and are open to all members of the University.
Appointed Secretary for India
Mr. Eddy took his degree of Ph.B. at Yale in 1891, and has been awarded honorary degrees of M. A. by both Yale and Wooster College. After working from 1896 to 1911 among students of India in connection with the Y. M. C. A., Mr. Eddy was appointed Y. M. C. A. Secretary for India. The latest of his foreign tours included visits to Russia, Germany, the Ruhr, Japan, China, and India, in which countries he traveled as a careful observer of economic and political conditions.
Men wishing to have appointments for the conferences, which Mr. Eddy has consented to give in connection with his talks, should sign the blue book posted for this purpose at Phillips Brooks House.
Mr. Eddy will spend a busy day at the University. His program includes a luncheon at the Liberal Club at 1.20 o'clock, a talk at Phillips Brooks House to girls from Radcliffe and Simmons at 8 o'clock, the address at the Union at 7.30, and an informal talk at the Episcopal Theological School at 9.30.
