1927 QUINTET BOWS TO YALE FRESHMEN 29-19

Coach Chase's Men Hold Elis to 11-9 Score in First Half but Cannot Stop Flood of Goals in Second

The results of the Harvard-Yale Freshman basketball game played Tuesday night at New Haven, which Yale won 29-19, never reached the CRIMSON office until yesterday morning. The press dispatch was delayed more than five hours by the severity of the storm which crippled telegraph communication throughout New England.

The Freshmen showed a fighting spirit throughout defeat that was a credit to S. L. Chase 3L., their coach. Yale's attack was too strong for the 1927 players. Mainly due to the efforts of Leekley on the offense and Hesse on the defense the first year men were able to hold the Blue to an 11-9 score during the first half.

In the second half, Yale quickly amassed a sufficient margin to win the game. This was due to the superb efforts of their captain, Coleman, and Simmens. Jones, who played a good game for the Blue, failed to scintillate due to his being so well covered by Captain Lightbourn of the Crimson quintet. The showing of Leekley, who tossed two field goals and six fouls through the basket, is all the more remarkable because he had just come from a sick-bed.

Score, Yale 29, Harvard 19. Goals from the floor, Leekley 2, Lightbourn 2, Eaton, Malick, Coleman 4, Simmens 3, Carmody 2, Jones 2. Goals from fouls. Leekley 6, Lightbourn, Simmens 4, Coleman, Gaisser, Jones. Referee, Waters. Time, two 20-minute halves. Harvard  Yale Leekley, McCrum, r.f.  l.g., Coleman (capt.)
