Tomorrow evening at 8 o'clock, in the Club Room of the Union, the Harvard Democratic Club will hold its first informal Smoker, open to all members. Professor John L. Conger, exchange professor of history from the University of Illinois, will give a short talk on the general Democratic situation and the possibilities of the Club. Professor Conger, a graduate of the University of Nebraska, has been since 1907 Head of the department of history and government at Knox College, Galesburg, Illinois. Lately he has served as professor of American history during summer sessions at the University of Illinois, Michigan and Washington. He is also a member of the American History Association.
Professor Conger's talk, the first of several to be held under the auspices of the Democratic Club, will be followed by a general discussion concerning the democratic possibilities in the presidential elections.
The executive committee of the club, consisting of C. P. Morehouse '25, R. H. Jackson '26, and L. B. Smith '25, will be glad to see anybody interested in joining the club, in Dunster 50 from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 today or tomorrow. Plans are being made for getting other prominent Democrats to speak at the University, and it is likely that the club will be a potent factor in influencing college political opinion, especially as this year's presidential election draws near.
