A novel experiment in education will be tried this afternoon in the New Lecture Hall at the Mid-year Examination in English 72, Professor Lowes' course on the "Romantic Poetry of the Nineteenth Century". As many books as the student can carry may be brought into the room and used freely throughout the examination.
The experiment is entirely new at Harvard. The end in view is not to make the examination a test of the 24-hour memory, but to give the members of the course a chance to show that they have critical ability and that they know where to look for information and how to apply it.
