An amazing succession of accurate long shots brought the Freshman basketball team from behind in the last quarter of the Choate game Saturday for a hard-earned 25 to 19 victory.
Handicapped by the early removal of Leekley, stellar center, on account of personal fouls and by the continued disability of Captain Lightbourn, the Crimson first-year men struggled along on even teams with the hitherto undefeated visitors throughout the first half which ended with Harvard leading 12 to 11.
In the third period left guard Tracy personally conducted Choate into a 2-point lead, scoring a field goal and three free throws while the Freshmen were caging but a single basket.
Here Coach Chase's team found itself. Captain Lightbourn, who had watched the first half in street clothes, was pressed into service, while Malick, McCrum, and Eby proceeded to cage spectacular long-range shots. Under-the-basket goals by McCrum and Eaton finally put the game on ice.
The summary: Score, Harvard 1927 25, Choate 19. Goals from the floor, Eaton 3, Eby 2, Malick 2, McCrum 2, Tracy 3, Maher, Mullaney. Goals from fouls, Eaton 5, Leekley 2, Tracy 4, Maher 2, Brown, Raymond, Morrison. Referee, Hoyt. Time, four 10-minute periods.
