The Freshman Class held its first smoker of the year last night in the Living Room of the Union. About 600 first year men attended.

Dean C. N. Greenough '90, Assistant Dean E. H. Whitney '17, and T. J. Campbell '12 provided the serious speeches of the evening, and B. S. Cogan '23, R. P. Bullard '24, H. H. Stafford '26, and Bert Lowe's orchestra, the light entertainment.

B. F. Rice Bassett '25, chairman of the Committee on Freshman Affairs, presided.

In his speech, Dean Whitney praised the present first year class for its good record at the recent hour examinations. The Freshmen bettered the record of the class of 1927 by 7 per cent, inasmuch as only 19 per cent of the class were unsatisfactory this year, as compared to 26 per cent of last year's Freshman class.
