SQUASH SEASON UNDER WAY AS TOURNAMENT PLAY COMMENCES

Upjohn and Smith, Only Seeded Men to Play, Win With Ease

The squash season started in earnest yesterday with the playing of the first matches in the University tournament.

E. M. Upjohn '25 and A. L. Smith '25 were the only seeded men to play, and they both won easily in two sets. Upjohn defeated Horace Bowker Jr. 27' 15-10, and Smith defeated J. H. Herwood '27, 15-6, 16-2. H. B. Jackson '27, of last year's Freshman team, defeated W. M. Austin '27 in a close three set match, 15-12, 12-15, 15-3.

All the remaining matches in the first round will have to be played or defaulted by this evening, according to the squash management.

Coach Harry Cowles has seeded the following men in the following order G. D. Debevaiso '26, J. J. Glessner '25, F. M. Upjohn '25, R. P. Rose '25, A. L. Smith '25, H. N. Rawlins '27, J. H. Finley Jr '25, and I. A. Weisman '26. W. P. Dixon '25, captain of the squash team, has not entered the tournament.
