At least $40,000 will be required to finance the exodus of 3500 University students to the game at New Haven tomorrow. Conveyances ranging from broken down Fords to Pullmans will carry the Crimson supporters to the scene of the annual conflict with the Blue.
The student who has a well filled purse can rent a high-powered automobile for the trip and get to Yale and back at a cost ranging from $50 to $10, depending upon the number of men in the car. Or he may travel in a sleeping car for $15.
Fords may be rented for $28, covering all expenses in travelling and if the charges are divided among five men they can easily make the trip for about six dollars.
Men who have their own machines figure a still lower cost, merely the charges for gasoline and oil, which will amount to eight or nine dollars for the trip. A surprisingly low cost per capita results when several men travel together and divide the expense.
During the last few days the garage men around the square have been doing a rushing business trying to revive decrepit automobiles in time to make the trip.
At the bottom of the ladder are the enthusiasts who will "bum rides" to New Haven. The cost of their trip is nothing, but their method of transportation most uncertain.
On the average a student may safely be said to expend approximately $11 to get to see the game, but no one has ever tried to estimate how many thousands of dollars will be expended by University men for the well-known "incidentals" which always go with the trip to Yale.
