Due to unsatisfactory conditions is the University observatory in Arequipa, Peru, it was decided to establish a branch station at San Jose, halfway between Arequipa and the Port of Mollendo of several months.
The new station will be opened today by Dr. J. S. Paraskevopoulos, who is in charge of the Boyden station at Arequipa. It is located 4850 feet above sea region that has been found to be at most cloudless, even when Arequipa a level of 8000 feet in cloud-board.
Two telescopes will be used at the new observatory. They are respectively one-inch and three-inch and are both equipped for photographic recording. This new station will thus enable the Harvard sky patrol, which has been maintained for forty years in Peru, to continue uninterrupted.
