The cold weather yesterday did not stop Coach Haines' from giving his Freshmen crew candidates their first work-out on the good ship "Leviathan". With the 20 oars swinging in anything but perfect unison, the huge barge swept up and down the Charles with each new set of candidates. This total lack of symmetry is explained by the fact that none of the oarsmen ever rowed in a shell, and the resemblance they bore to the sweep-swinger slaves in the "Sea-Hawk" will probably disappear after a few weeks more under Coach Haines. The "Leviathan" has proved a successful invention, however, and is sure to become a permanent institution in Harvard rowing circles. Freshmen will row regularly in this barge during the next two weeks.
